bad harv“The Dark Knight” opens in 31 days, not that I’m counting or anything. The viral campaign on the Internet has kept fans buzzing, but I’m still convinced that the film should be opening this month rather than well into July. All the previous Batman films have had June openings. What’s more, there’s really nothing between now and July 18th that I’m terribly excited about. I couldn’t care less about “Wanted” or “Wall-E” or “Hancock.” This summer has really been the most sporadic in recently memory. Movies that I’ve genuinely gotten excited about have been released in fits and starts, not once a week like in the days of old. Maybe I’m becoming more sophisticated a film-goer or at least more sanctimonious.

The most recent tidbit from “The Dark Knight” was unveiled last night. Another reason I think the movie should’ve had a June release is that the Warner Bros. marketing behemoth is just not all that great at sustaining fans’ interest without inadvertently irritating them beyond measure. Hello, I am one of those fans. At any rate, this new clip offers up a great view of the back of Two-Face’s head. Wowie!

I’m really past the point of getting excited about things like this. I feel like the movie’s been coming out for eons, and it’s still a month away. Trailers, and stills and other dribs and drabs of pre-release hype don’t build up my anticipation like they used to. Fans are already complaining about the film’s running time (two and a half hours, apparently). That’s nothing compared to the eternity we’ll have to get through before “The Dark Knight” finally hits screens.
